Prestige Hat


This Bamileke headdress from Cameroon, Africa may remind you of those worn by some Native American groups, such as the Lakota war bonnet. However, this feathered headdress has more in common with a crown, such as those worn by British royalty. Among the Bamileke, an ethnic group of Cameroon, feathered headdress are worn by the leader of groups and princes at special ceremonies, such as funerals or dance celebrations. This means that the feathers in this headdress are decorative, designed to showcase beauty and prestige. 

A hat with many tan, brown, grey, and turquoise feathers extending outward and upward from the center. The woven element is visible around the bottom where the hat is put on the head.
