Bust of Septimius Severus

Septimius Severus was the emperor of Rome from 193—211 CE. 193 was a treacherous time to vie for the emperorship— the Year of Five Emperors. After the murder of Emperor Commodus, five different men made a run for the throne. Septimius Severus was the final emperor in this bloody sequence and remarkably lived to rule for nearly 20 years.
